iPhoneography, a form of mobile art, has grown into an international movement of thousands of people with varying backgrounds who have discovered how to capture an image spontaneously with their cell phone, and to create an image or tell a story unique to that moment. The Beginner’s workshop is an introduction to iPhoneography that will focus on a few of the most common editing apps. During the workshop you will be provided a brief overview of your camera, while reviewing some basic photography composition tips. We then move to an introduction of a few photography apps used by many iPhoneographers.  The goal of this workshop is to take you beyond the “native” camera in order to show you how to make creative images that reflect how you see the world. You don’t need to be an experienced photographer to learn. During this workshop you will have the chance to practice what you’ve learned with one-on-one instruction, as needed.

Rebecca Bruyn considers herself an Alternative Photographer, using technology from the 1840’s, cyanotypes, to the 21st century, iPhoneography.   In response to a growing interest, she began teaching “Intro to iPhoneography” in Provincetown to small groups of 4-6 participants in 2015. Bruyn’s work has been exhibited locally at The Addison Art Gallery/After Hopper in Orleans, The Cortile Gallery in Provincetown, Cape Cod Art Association in Barnstable, Cotuit Center for the Arts and at the Cape Cod Museum of Art/After Hopper Exhibit in Dennis.  Her work has been seen on social media through juried competitions regionally and internationally. In 2016, she won 1st place in the Mobile Device Exhibition/Indiana for “Winter Dune Flight”.

Since being captivated by the digital artistry of iPhoneography I have been completely transfixed. It has given me an opportunity to access a creative expression unlike anything I have ever experienced in many years of photographing. To be able to immediately capture what I see and to rework the image to reflect what I felt is enormously rewarding to me. I am drawn to capturing a mood that can reflect back a place of beauty and quiet mystery.”
