IN-PERSON: “Explosive Nature” Painting Workshop with Felipe Ortiz

November 3rd, 4th and 5th | Wednesday – Friday, 10am-3pm | 3 sessions | $290 for members, $310 for non-members + $25 materials fee

In this unique painting workshop, Colombian-American artist Felipe Ortiz breaks down the techniques behind his signature style, Explosive Nature — a series of collaged imagery inspired by his favorite places, rooted in expressive abstractions of movement and color. Join this hands-on workshop to capture the natural beauty of the Outer Cape in your own explosive creations. Over three days of intensive studio sessions, you will journey into nature to find inspiration, practice new techniques in observational drawing and painting, and learn Ortiz’s signature “splash” technique to tie each layer together. Discover a new perspective of your favorite places, and express what nature really means to you.

Colombian-American artist Felipe Ortiz focuses on the practice of painting, from traditional easel painting to murals and public installations. In 2009, he earned a BFA in 2D Fine Arts from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Felipe has participated in numerous art exhibits of private and public collections, including the Fuller Craft Museum, Punto Urban Art Museum, and the corporate loan collection at DeCordova Museum. His installations have been featured in the Knight Foundation’s Horizontes Project, Northeastern University’s public art collection, and the Ministry of Culture in Cali, Colombia. In 2016, he founded Fresco Exchange, a creative and cultural exchange that supports artists through traveling art exhibits, public art interventions, workshops, and community engagement. Felipe is enamored with the Outer Cape and has spent winters in Wellfleet, and exhibited a solo show at Longstreet Gallery in Eastham in 2021. He is thrilled to return to the Outer Cape this fall.
