Jakki Kouffman

Truro artist Jakki Kouffman, a recent transplant from Santa Fe and St. Petersburg, is originally from Brookline. She has expressed her love of painting and teaching in several locations around the US, Canada and Italy. Before living in the Southwest she called Juneau, Alaska, home for six years. Prior to that, she lived in New York City after studying with Daniel Greene for four years at the Art Students League of New York. She attained her BA, magna cum laude, from Brandeis University, which also awarded her a Sachar International Fellowship for a year of sculpture study in Pietrasanta, Italy.

In 2018, Kouffman won Best in Show at the Acrylic Painters USA Annual Juried Show in St. Pete Beach, Florida. In 2017, she was awarded First Place at the On Your Mark Show at the Dunedin (Florida) Fine Art Center.  Also that year, Kouffman won First Place in Oil/Acrylic at the MasterWorks of New Mexico Exhibition in Albuquerque. She has won prizes at annual juried shows at the Hubbard Museum of the American West, the Rio Grande Art Association Encantada Show, the Pastel Society of New Mexico National Show, and the Anchorage Museum. She also won three prizes at the Pastel Society of America Show in New York City, where she was elected a Master Pastellist. Kouffman is a Signature Member of Plein Air Painters of New Mexico and the Pastel Society of New Mexico.

Kouffman has shown her work in more than two hundred juried and invitational shows around the country. She has presented twelve solo shows, including museum solos at the Las Cruces (New Mexico) Museum of Art, The Wichita Art Museum, the Hutchinson (Kansas) Art Center and the Juneau-Douglas (Alaska) City Museum.

In 2009, two of her pieces were installed at public facilities in Santa Fe and Las Vegas, New Mexico, through the Acclaimed Artist Series of the New Mexico Art in Public Places (AIPP) program. In 2008, one of her works was installed at the Mesilla Community Center through AIPP.

Kouffman’s artwork appears in several books, including Acrylic Innovation: Styles & Techniques by 64 Visionary Artists, written by Nancy Reyner and published by North Light Books. Her paintings also appear in The Artist and the American Landscape by John Driscoll and Arnold Skolnick, Painting Alaska by Kes Woodward, and Messages from Alaska, published by the M. J. Murdock Foundation. Kouffman’s work has been covered in the Santa Fe New Mexican, Pasatiempo, Cowboys & Indians, Albuquerque Journal, Santa Fe Reporter, and many other publications.

Kouffman’s pieces hang in collections in more than 20 states around the country. She has taught art workshops in many locations in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah and the Yukon. She also taught at Silvermine School of Art in New Canaan, Connecticut for 11 years and at Santa Fe Community College Continuing Education for 14 years.
