HOUGHTON CRANFORD SMITH: The Provincetown Paintings
PAAM 2011 exhibition catalogue
Houghton Cranford Smith is an integral part of the history of Provincetown Art Association and Museum. As one of the fifty-nine artists who showed in the first annual exhibition in 1915, he stands as a founder of the art colony that is Provincetown.
He is an artist whose images of the area are timeless, and at the same time reminiscent of time gone by; in many respects, he is a conscience for the town.
