The Art on the Edge & The Reaching Forward Student Mentor Exhibition

March 11 - April 3, 2016

Opening Reception:
Friday, March 11, 6pm (potluck!)

About the Exhibition

March is National Youth Art Month and PAAM will join in the celebration with the 2016 Art on the Edge and Reaching Forward Mentors exhibition. The opening reception for this exhibition is a potluck: guests are asked to bring a dish large enough to share with 6 people, or a $7 donation.

Art on the Edge is an intensive 20 week Saturday program that invites youth from the outer cape to work in PAAM’s museum school, to create and learn alongside professional artists. Twenty-seven participants, 11 years and up, worked collaboratively and individually on over 200 artworks featured in the exhibition.  The 2015-16 projects include one-of-a-kind alphabet books, reduction linocut prints, comic books, portrait paintings, still life studies, and multimedia collages. The Art on the Edge program runs October through March, and provides free transportation materials, and instruction.

This year’s group has worked with Lead Teachers Tracey Anderson and Megan Hinton, and Visiting Artists Jo Hay, Vicky Tomayko, Zehra Khan and Curator of Education Lynn Stanley.  Students also worked with mentors Iris Caliri, Matthew DeFelice, Allegra Martin, Nicole Murphy and Austin Smith, as part of PAAM’s Reaching Forward Student Mentor Program. Reaching Forward Mentors are high school and college-aged students who receive paid professional training in the arts to support the creative development of Art on the Edge students.

Students are residents of Provincetown, Truro, Wellfleet, Eastham, Orleans, Brewster, Harwich, South Dennis and Hyannis, and attend the following schools along the Outer Cape:   Provincetown Schools, Truro Central School, Wellfleet Elementary, Nauset Middle School, Eddy Elementary, Wixon Middle School, Monomoy Schools, and the Cape Cod Lighthouse Charter School.
