Don’t Be Afraid of the Internet! Basic Website Design for Artists with Sian Robertson

This workshop is designed for artists, crafters and others who would like to design and manage their own web sites or revamp an existing one, but aren’t quite sure how to get started and feel overwhelmed by all the options out there. In this era of wide internet access and social media it is vital for artists to have a web presence. A good web site doesn’t have to be complicated, or hard to maintain, but it is an essential tool for an artist who wishes to be taken seriously by prospective gallery directors, potential buyers and art collectors, and those who write about art.

Whether you’re looking to sell your art online, get into a gallery, or provide a place for someone who stumbles across your work to find out more about you, this workshop will help you to hone in on what is important to you and how best to go about achieving your website goals. It is specifically designed with a week between each class so that participants can start to work on their sites and get help with issues, opinions on layout, and other questions and goals.

Sian Robertson is a self-taught artist originally from the UK, now living in North Truro. Known mostly for her work with vintage maps, she also creates 3D assemblages, altered books, and other mixed media pieces.

Robertson has never received any formal art training but has been cutting and pasting, amongst many other creative pursuits, since she was about eight. She began to take this ‘hobby’ seriously around 2005 and since then has devoted most of her free time to further her artistic career. Since 2015 she has had six solo shows at Adam Peck Gallery in Provincetown, MA, and in 2020 was part of a 3 person show at Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA. She was the Higgins Art Gallery Artist in Residence at the Tilden Arts Center/Cape Cod Community College in the fall of 2020.

Robertson has been featured in The Provincetown Independent, the Provincetown Banner, Uppercase Magazine, and Provincetown Magazine. She has had many pieces accepted into juried shows at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum, the Cultural Center of Cape Cod, and the Cape Cod Museum of Art.

Robertson teaches classes at Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill, and at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum, and she also works with other artists to create their websites and enhance their online presence.
