ENGAGE EXPLORE CREATE
The Provincetown Art Association and Museum is a nationally recognized, year-round cultural institution that fuses the creative energy of America’s oldest active art colony with the natural beauty of outer Cape Cod that has inspired artists for generations. The Museum galleries and school studios provide a rich setting for youth of all ages to explore, engage, and create! Whether you are visiting the area or are a member of the community, we warmly invite families to partake in any of our Youth Education offerings.
It is well-proven that engagement with the arts brings positive development to the lives of young people, and here at PAAM we firmly believe arts based learned experiences should be made accessible to all young people. A visit to our museum is always free for students 12 and under and our galleries frequently feature youth-centered activity tables, encouraging even our youngest visitors to engage deeply and creatively with their museum visit. Student memberships are also available for those students 12 and up interested in expanding their museum experience. Visitors to the area are welcome to explore our Summer Workshops available for students ages 5 and up as well as our school vacation week workshops, typically occurring in the month of February and April. Members of the Cape Cod community are warmly encouraged to apply to Art Reach.
Through grants, fundraisers, and generous donors, all PAAM Youth Education is offered at little to no cost to families. All Art Reach and START programming is completely free-of-charge, including snacks, materials, and transportation. A bus is provided between Harwich and Provincetown to ensure young people throughout Cape Cod have the opportunity to participate in PAAM Youth Education.
THE ROBYN WATSON SCHOLARSHIP
The Robyn Watson Scholarship was created to honor the memory of the late Director Robyn Watson’s dedication to quality education at PAAM. The Scholarship is offered to an interested student, fifteen to twenty-two years of age. Scholarship funds are provided to attend one Museum School workshop for an interested student, 15-22 years of age. The scholarship is need-based and granted one time per year.
Interested students are asked to write a letter answering the following questions: 1) Why would you like to participate in an art workshop? Which workshop are you interested in attending? How might a scholarship provide you an opportunity you might not otherwise have? Please send letters to Tessa Bry Taylor, Curator of Youth Education, via email to firstname.lastname@example.org or via mail at PAAM, 460 Commercial Street, Provincetown, MA 02657. Applications accepted on a rolling basis until the scholarship is awarded.
THE JOHN MICHAEL GRAY SCHOLARSHIP
THANK YOU TO STOP AND SHOP FOR GENEROUSLY UNDERWRITING THIS SCHOLARSHIP!
In memory of John Michael Gray, former floral associate at the Stop & Shop store in Provincetown and a long time arts educator, Stop & Shop created the John Michael Gray Scholarship. John and his partner Tim became known as the “Hat Sisters” and worked tirelessly to raise money for charitable organizations throughout New England.
The $5000 annual gift underwrites the cost of materials, instruction, healthy snacks, and transportation for two high-school students participating in PAAM’s Art Reach program. The students—one Provincetown resident and one Outer Cape resident—will be announced as John Michael Gray Scholars in the winter/spring of 2019.
