Writing a Painting
Before the written word, there was the image. The handmade mark evolved from an image into a symbol and eventually words and numbers. Art is a missing link in the evolution of language. The focus of this workshop is to explore the idiosyncratic possibilities of mark making to create descriptive imagery. We will start by making notes and sketches of our objectives in literal terms. Next, establish the big passages developing a dialogue with the work. Then, punctuate with mark making and details. Finally, an analysis on “reading” a painting. Practice will consist of drawing and painting while I demonstrate and discuss process and technique. In this workshop, expect to create a nascent personal language with which to expresses your unique vision.
