Right Brains on the Loose: Beginning Monotype

Explore the popular medium of monotype. This energetic positive approach to art making will have you stretching your Right Brain in creative ways. The experimental nature of this medium is empowering. You can work with the ‘ghosts’ (the residual print from each uniquely inked printing plate) to start a series or layer prints with additional inked plates. Using stencils and other printing tricks provide surprising results. You will also find yourself creating many prints ripe for collage experimentation.

This workshop is suitable for both the beginner and seasoned artist for loosening up! You can bring existing prints or even watercolor paintings to rework via monotype into entirely different works. There is a significant supply of non-conventional tools to try. Small collographs can be made the first day to use on the second day. Handmade and decorative papers for collaging along with all other tools, non-toxic inks, and paper are supplied. No prior experience necessary – come play!
