Painting prompts looking, curiosity, production, and stimulation. This three-day intensive workshop will consist of multiple daily exercises, or prompts, to train the painter to be less tentative, more intuitive, and develop a free lyrical approach to painting. Individual and collaborative prompts will be assigned after the instructor’s demonstration. Color mixing, paint application, and subject matter will be discussed. Group and individual evaluation of prompt outcomes will occur to facilitate each painter’s progress and decision making. Painting students will leave the workshop with a sense of confidence and ideas about approaching the medium to become a more well-rounded and prolific painter. We will start each session with a brief visit to the museum to look at relevant paintings to enlighten and inspire the class. Some painting experience is recommended but all levels of experience are welcome. Students can work in either acrylic or oil-based paint.
