Painting a still life, landscape, or figure expresses an intimate connection to life. By interpreting these traditional subjects’ painters aim to convey such a connection by looking closely at their surrounding world and then reinterpreting it in paint. During this five week workshop, meeting once a week, we will explore painting the still life, landscape, and figure through assigned in class painting exercises and looking at works in the PAAM collection. Approaches of realism, abstraction, and imagination will be explored. Application and color mixing techniques will be demonstrated in each class session. Group and individual evaluation of paintings created in and outside of the workshop will occur. The workshop is open to beginning to advanced painters who want to explore a deeper connection and a unique approach to looking and painting. Participants can work in any type of oil or acrylic paint.
