Outside: Portable Studio – Painting and Drawing in the Expanded Field

In our current age of social distancing and inaccessibility to workshop space artists are creating new means of production that do not require the use of a studio. This experimental week-long workshop explores painting and drawing by literally stepping outside of the traditional art studio. Course objectives will challenge studio practice by exploring themes of looking at, communing with, and finding models on the natural and public landscapes of Provincetown. Carrying manageable portable drawing and painting supplies to make a series of investigations will be explored. By way of looking at contemporary art, readings, and in class exercises participants will be exposed to expansive techniques and materials for work in the open air. The workshop will also expand painting and drawing by means of finding landscape material on site to act as  models for two-dimensional investigations en plein air.  All levels of experience are welcome.

Masks will be required in all outdoor and plein air workshops at PAAM, regardless of vaccination status.
