“Organic realism” describes a unique approach to realism designed to grow, not execute, a picture of reality. It is a synthesis of tonal, impressionist, and graphic techniques designed to naturally build up layers of visual phenomena that add up to a sense of realism.
In this hands-on workshop we will work on developing individual methodologies as well as using layering techniques from drawing, to under-painting, to painting and reduction, to glazing, so as to depict a wide range of phenomena such as light, depth, weight, movement, and mood. As we weave the layers together they add up to the effect of a living, breathing reality. By the end of the week you can expect to have a finished painting as well as a methodology that can be customized to your unique interests.
