Drawn to Painting the Head

This two-session workshop offers a bridge between learning the basic proportions and structures that comprise the head and making tonal studies that reflect that knowledge in paint. Participants will work from a model. Mornings will begin with warm up studies using charcoal followed by tonal studies in monochromatic paint. Afternoons will be spent developing one of these studies into a larger work using a more complex palette of colors. Emphasis will be placed on using tones of color to create the effect of light on the head. This will result in paintings that reflect a likeness, not an exactness, of the model. The goal of this workshop is to strengthen the artist’s ability to paint basic interpretations of people from life.
