Plein Air Painting with John Clayton
July 11, July 18, July 25, August 1, August 8, August 15, or August 22, 9:30-12:30pm
$100 per day

A basic, one-day plein air studio art class open to all levels. Participants will develop the fundamental skills that all artists need, when painting from life, including composition, drawing, design, value and color skills. Each class begins with a short demonstration and a different lesson about painting each session. Students work from life outside, sketches, and photographs; receive individual instruction within the group to address specific needs and levels of experience; and bring work to the studio for critique.

Students may work in oil or pastels. A materials list and reading list are provided, and materials are available for a small fee. First-time painters welcome.

John Clayton is a plein air painter based in Provincetown. He has also studied at the Cape Cod School of Art, where he developed an appreciation for the work and teaching of Charles Hawthorne. In 2000 he was featured in PAAM’s Emerging Artist exhibition, juried by Elisabeth Pearl. Clayton’s work can be found in Provincetown at the Egeli Gallery.
