| From images painted on cave walls to the familiar practice of studying models in the studio, artists have delighted in depicting the human body. But unlike the studio environment, there is something liberating about painting the figure outdoors, where shadow and light reveal form rather than exact details of anatomy. In this workshop we will create multiple small sketches in different lighting conditions, and then a larger canvas which we can return to on the following day. The emphasis will be on opening up our senses to a fresh use of color and space, rather than making a finished painting. This workshop includes afternoon access to the studio during non-class time. |

Rob Dutoit received his MFA from Parsons School of Design and studied for extended periods in France and Italy. An active Cape artist since the 1980s, he has been involved in numerous solo and group shows in Boston, New York and Provincetown, most recently at Maurice Arlos Gallery, NYC and at The Schoolhouse Gallery, Provincetown. |
