Have you been longing to work with light and color but can’t devote a week to a class? This introductory watercolor workshop will guide participants in the use and choice of materials, including paper, pigment, brushes, sponges, and where to find them.  We’ll look at artwork done in the watercolor medium from a variety of cultures, followed by demonstrations of mixing paint, the application of watercolors on a spectrum of papers, and the effects of using different kinds of brushes and sponges. Mornings will be spent indoors, focusing on technique. In the afternoon, if the weather is nice, we’ll move out of doors to experiment.
M.J. Levy Dickson explores global interconnectedness through her artwork, and has discovered a common denominator in the natural world. During her most recent artist-in-residency in Tangier, Morocco, as well as her travels to Iceland, where she has also exhibited her work, and Bali, Dickson finds universal patterns in nature through color, light, mood, and subject that transcend conventional land and water boundaries. She hopes to use her environmentally focused pieces to communicate the importance of preserving our beautiful natural surroundings worldwide. Dickson studied with Jan Cox while in the Diploma program at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and has a BFA from Tufts University, as well as an MFA in Art Education from Boston University. She has taught at MIT, the Boston Architectural Center, Lesley University, and the Nantucket Island School of Design and the Arts, as well as privately with all age groups. Dickson works with a variety of mediums in her paintings and drawings to convey a composite relationship between mood and subject. Dickson hopes to use her environmentally focused pieces to communicate the importance of preserving our beautiful natural surroundings worldwide.
