In this workshop we'll look at the act of painting as a vehicle for meditation, and at meditation as a foundation for the creative process. We will work to establish and strengthen the connection between a personal spiritual practice and making art. Historical examples of the sacred in art makingsuch as the retablos and ex votos of Mexico, and prayer paintings from the Kabbalahwill inform our work. We will explore ways to integrate language, including "chant painting" (repetitive word painting), and other disciplines to enrich the process. This will be an exploratory and contemplative approach to creating, open to beginning through advanced levels of experience. No previous experience in meditation or painting is necessary.
