| This series of classes will provide a fun, supportive, and engaging environment for creativity. From week to week we’ll work with a variety of media, both inside the Museum School studios, PAAM’s galleries, and outsideutilizing each environment to inspire art-making. Gesture drawing from the model, looking at and creating from art on display in PAAM’s galleries, using natural materials to make prints, outdoor watercolor sketching, and modeling in clay are just some of the materials we’ll use and activities we’ll participate in over July and August. A week by week roster of activities and media is listed below. Take one class or sign up for all eight weeks! Classes scheduled outside will take place in PAAM studios if the weather does not cooperate. All materials will be supplied but participants are also encouraged to bring favorite materials/images/photographs they may want to work with. |
Session 1: July 7 & 8
Drawing and Painting Animals: We’ll look at animal-inspired artwork from the PAAM collection and sketch from life. Bring pictures of animals (yours or images from the wild) if you have them.
Session 2: July 14 & 15
Art as Inspiration: Create original works of art inspired by paintings, drawings, and sculptures displayed in PAAM’s galleries! Children under 10 years of age must be accompanied by an adult for this week’s sessions.
Session 3: July 21 & 22
Painting Out of Doors: Artists have celebrated Provincetown’s natural beauty by creating luminous images of the land and sea for over 100 years. You’ll draw and sketch in the open air around Provincetown. Don’t forget your sun block! (This workshop will be held indoors if weather is inclement).
Session 4: July 28 & 29
Relief Printmaking: Traditional and not so traditional materials will be used to create prints and patterns.
Cork, vegetable and plant life, and rubber are among the materials we’ll use.
Session 5: August 4 & 5
Working in 3-D: Like working with clay? Want to learn how to cast a plaster form in sand?
Like using tools to create with? Then this workshop is for you!
Session 6: August 11 & 12
Drawing the Figure: We’ll sketch from a clothed model, practicing gesture drawing, and creating studies of the figure using charcoal, pencil and oil pastels.
Session 7: August 18 & 19
Book Making: We’ll make the “bones” of simple books forms from paper and other materials. Comic books, photo keepsakes, sketchbooks, and journals, stories with collage and assemblage can be created from these, depending on your interests.
Session 8: August 25 & 26
Drawing the Figure 2: Portraits and Self-Portraits
Spend time developing the practice of drawing the figure and focusing in on aspects of anatomy to create engaging portraits. Work from full-length mirrors on large pieces of paper, or create smaller images of yourself or others. A great workshop for friends or family members who want to create together.
