In this workshop we’ll utilize spontaneous painting and drawing techniques applied to Plexiglas or metal plates and transfer these to paper with a single pass of the press. Glistening layers of radiant ink, imbedded permanently into the fibers of rag paper, will create truly unique images. Subsequent over-printing creates depth, mystery, or veils of memory and possibilities. The spontaneity of direct painting and drawing techniques require few printmaking skills and the beginner will be rewarded with magical surprises. There will be daily demonstrations along with individual discussion of work in progress. The large PAAM print studio has one electric and two manual presses and many large worktables to accommodate all aspects of printmaking projects, including the “ghosts and unexpected guests” that mysteriously occur in monotypes. Discover why artists from the 17th century to the present continue to explore the magic of monotype.
