The workshop will address the challenges of painting the figure in relation to the mercurial nature of water. Over this two-day intensive, we’ll work from the model at locations in Provincetown and look closely at the tradition of paintings of bathers, which typically merge the figure with the seaincluding the works of Cezanne, Munch, Bonnard, Picasso, and David Park. Discussions on the formal conventions, as well as symbolic content of this tradition will inform our work. Experience painting out of doors with oils is recommended.
