Using copper, aluminum or acrylic plates, students will explore a range of techniques and possibilities that develop the connection between drawing, painting and printmaking. Multi-layered observed and imagined drawing, ink manipulation, found and appropriated imagery, and text will encourage both image development and process. Traditional and contemporary approaches to etching/intaglio, including hard ground, lift ground, aquatint, drypoint, and photo etching will demonstrate new ways of thinking about making editioned or one-of-a-kind etchings.
This class will be taught out of the artist’s studio. Directions will be supplied upon registration.

| Joyce Zavorskas has taught printmaking for over 30 years in numerous colleges, schools and art centers, including PAAM, Castle Hill, Creative Art Center in Chatham, Touchstone Center for the Arts, and Simmons College. She is currently an adjunct faculty member at Cape Cod Community College and was Artist in Residence at Cape Cod Community College in 2005. She has received numerous awards and honors including the 2005 Adrian Tinsley Award for Excellence in the Arts and an Arts Lottery Grant in 1984. She has served on the board of directors for many years for the Boston Printmakers, Monotype Guild of New England, Printmakers of Cape Cod and the Creative Art Center in Chatham. |

She holds three university degrees and is a recent graduate of MassArt (MFA Painting/Printmaking). Her graduate work was included in the 2008 Thesis Exhibition at the Fine Arts Work Center and Provincetown Art Association & Museum, and Copley Society Winter 2009 Juried Exhibition. Residencies include Master Printmaker at Contemporary Artists Center in North Adams and four month-long studio residencies at FAWC in Provincetown where she had the opportunity to study with artists Michael Mazur and Peik Larsen, among others. She has lived year round on Cape Cod for 25 years and spent every childhood summer in North Eastham. Her monotypes are shown locally by Left Bank Gallery in Wellfleet. www.joycezavorskas.com.
