Swinging a Big Brush: Painting Broadly in Wellfleet with Doug Ritter

Prepare to cut loose and have fun as we explore the potential of painterly activity and learn that a brushstroke can carry more information than you would expect. We will work primarily with outdoor subjects, such as the maritime and architectural features of Wellfleet village, and concentrate on conveying the visual field through many quick, gestural studies. We’ll work towards tuning our vision to the colors we see and to strengthening our reflexive responses with the materials at hand. Students may work with acrylic, watercolor, tempera or oil.

By connecting what we see with the expressive qualities of paint, and embracing immediacy and athletic application, we’ll reap the full benefits of this untroubled approach to painting. Beginners to experienced painters welcome.

This workshop will take place in and around the artists studio and outdoors in Wellfleet.
Directions will be supplied upon registration.
