This course is designed for the student who wants to learn drawing basics that are fundamental to all art-making. Areas to be covered include perspective, proportion, compositional elements, the creation of space and shape, and the development of light and shadow. Students will also investigate different drawing materials such as pencil, pen, ink wash and charcoal to learn about their various attributes and capabilities. All materials supplied.
This class can be taken in conjunction with the Absolute Beginners 4-week course, for those wishing to further their studies in drawing.
Tia Scalcione received her BFA from Boston University, School of Fine Arts with a disciplinary focus in painting and education, in 1995. She has worked in a variety of arts education settings, including the East Boston Social Centers where she was a counselor and coordinated after-school art programs for children aged 5-14; for the past 5 years she has taught printmaking, painting and drawing on the Outer Cape. She has shown work at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum, the Cape Cod Museum of Art, and the New Bedford Art Museum.
