Painting with Watercolors or Acrylics: A Studio and Plein Air Workshop with Wendy Olin, August 25-28, 1-4:30PM $300

watercolor by Marion Hawthorne

Join us as we focus on the fundamental and varied techniques required to master these beautiful water-based mediums. Watercolor’s nuances will allow us to focus on for a broad range of interesting topics to help us understand the process of painting. Its fluidity and transparency are well suited for capturing the Cape’s environs. If you have not tried watercolors before, or if you want to improve your skills using acrylics, this will be an opportunity for you to relax, have fun, and immerse yourself in your work. This class is designed to accommodate students of all levels. Work in one of our beautiful studios or find the perfect spot to paint outdoors. Beginning with a strong composition, addressing perspective, line, form, and the relationships between these elements, we will move on to explore the properties of color to create space and depth on the two dimensional plane. Mixing a colorful palette will enable you to paint light and shadow and obtain value contrasts for a complex and rich watercolor or acrylic painting. During the course of the workshop there will be demonstrations and critiques with emphasis placed on the individual style of each student. The subject matter is your choice.

This workshop includes morning access to the studio.
