Place
and process are our concerns in this workshop, open
to students of any experience level. Like realism or
even impressionism, assemblage draws from the environment.
And in the tradition of the mooncussers, we will scavenge
and beachcomb the Provincetown shore for all sorts of
unorthodox materials.
Students
will work with these pieces of Provincetown and assemble
them into ironic, amusing and startling objects. The
history of the art of assemblageincluding Kurt
Schwitters architectural "merz" constructions,
Joseph Cornells evocative arrangements in glass-covered
boxes and Karel Appels fantastic agglomerationswill
be discussed. Please bring a glue-gun, nails, screws,
hammer, protective eye-wear, and a drill, if you have
one.
