In the proverbial world of the summer workshop there are gifted artists and there are inspirational teachers. When we, as students, find ourselves in the company of individuals who combine these attributes—a passion for art-making and a commitment to education—our lives are transformed.

Welcome to the 2006 summer season of the Museum School at PAAM. Much has changed over the past year. PAAM celebrated the opening of our renovated and expanded galleries in the fall of 2005, and this spring marked the opening of the Museum School at PAAM’s four new studio classrooms. PAAM is proud to be distinguished as the first green museum in the northeast. Our facilities utilize state-of-the-art green technologies, including photovoltaic cells; this allows us to conserve energy while maintaining customized climate-controlled galleries and classrooms. All of our studio classrooms look out to the bay or the jumbled rooftops of our East End neighborhood. Our expanded print studio provides plenty of elbow room in which to create. And each studio is bathed in natural light—the same light that drew artists such as Charles W. Hawthorne to the Cape over 100 years ago.

What has not changed is our commitment to providing excellent educational opportunities with gifted artists from our community. Our artist-teachers provide a unique art-making experience that is imbedded in the life and culture of the Outer Cape.

This year we’ve added classes that meet once a week (for those of you who can’t commit to a week-long workshop) along with a wonderful roster of two, three or five day classes to engage and stimulate you and your family. Create with us and be transformed.
