GUESS WHO’S COMING TO DINNER AT PAAM

On October 6, 2007 the forty volunteers who organized and sold out the second annual October gala at PAAM had every reason to celebrate. “The event was a brilliant success,” says Stewart Tabakin, PAAM Trustee and chair of the Development Committee. “We wanted to attract 225 guests and were thrilled that 240 actually attended. The Co-chairs and Host Committee did one terrific job!”

A gorgeous venue
Boston event planner Michael Wasserman donated his services to transform all five galleries and a tent on the front lawn into a chic backdrop for an elegant dinner. The evening’s festivities—a presentation, entertainment, and the raffle of a Karl Knaths painting that brought $20,000 in ticket sales—were amplified and projected on walls throughout the museum, so even those who remained at their tables could see what was going on in the next gallery.

A lifelong art enthusiast
Before dinner, Christine McCarthy presented the guest of honor, Napi Van Dereck, who was recognized for his decades-long support of the visual arts in Provincetown. Following a short video clip of himself discussing PAAM’s recent exhibition of his collection, Van Dereck told a touching tale of a childhood spent running through the Art Association galleries where his father, Anton, was then Director. Partygoers enjoyed a performance by Suede, who belted out jazz numbers and quieter ballads while moving among the three galleries where dinner was served.

A big benefit
“We owe a debt of gratitude to all the volunteers and guests,” says McCarthy. “The event raised nearly $38,000 to underwrite PAAM exhibitions and education programs. And we’re thrilled with the involvement of so many of our artist members.” Thirty of them created unique artworks that served as centerpieces and identified the table numbers; all the pieces went home with lucky guests. The Board and members of PAAM are grateful to the many people who attended and to those who made great and small contributions of time and money to this benefit event.
