BLAAAAM - Creating a Comic Book with Tracey Anderson
Ages 10-13

Work with artist Tracey Anderson to create your own comic book! Over this four day
workshop you’ll sketch out your own story and illustrate it, using felt pens and colored
pencils to create your own comic book. Bring along favorite comic books of your own for
inspiration. All materials will be supplied, but bring any favorite drawing materials if you
have them. Flame on! * limit 8 students*

Tracey Anderson is a long-time fan of comic books. Her earliest creative heros were Stan Lee and Jack Kirby of the Marvel comic empire. She started making her own comic books when she was seven years old and continues to collect vintage Fantastic Four comics whenever she can afford them. Tracey Anderson graduated in Drawing & Painting from Edinburgh College of Art in Scotland and completed Post Graduate Studies at The Royal College of Art in London. She teaches in PAAM’s Summer and After School programs.

Odds + Ends = Art: Creating Sculpture from Found Objects
with Conny Hatch
Ages 6-12

Bring your giant imagination to this workshop! You’ll learn how to build
the creatures you have always wanted to from reclaimed/recycled stuff.
We’ll see what we can bring to life from materials that might otherwise
be thrown out. Please bring anything you would like to work with.
We’ll help the planet and make you and your family and friends proud!.

Conny Hatch is an artist who had the great fortune of having her dad teach her how to use all kinds of hand and power tools from a very young age. After studying art with a concentration on ceramics at the Maine College of Art and Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, she moved to Provincetown in 1998. A 1999 Castle Hill sculpture workshop with Paul Bowen turned her interest towards working with found and reclaimed materials to create lively and unique sculptures. She has created over 180 sculptures to date which are in collections in the US and England. In 2007 Conny was awarded a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant in support of her pursuit of her art. Conny’s work can be seen at the Kobalt Gallery in Provincetown.

Printmaking with Vicky Tomayko
Ages 10+

A printmaking class for kids that will explore a variety of ways to make colorful prints using watercolors, inks, brayers, stencils, and etching. A great/fun way for kids to combine their own images with new techniques. Students will use the two etching presses in the print studio at PAAM.

Vicky Tomayko is an artist/printmaker living in Truro. She was a fellow at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown and has an MFA in printmaking from Western Michigan University. She has taught printmaking at Connecticut College, the Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill, the Fine Arts Work Center, and at the Museum School at PAAM; for ten years she was an artist-in-residence at the Cape Cod Lighthouse Charter School in Orleans. She has also taught monoprint workshops in Truro and at the Two Rivers Printmaking Studio in Vermont. Her work is represented by The Schoolhouse Gallery in Provincetown.

Gigantic Paintings!!!
with Liz Carney
Ages 6-10

In this class we’ll make artwork that is bigger than you, but rolls up small to fit in a tube! We’ll start with a, charcoal sketch, then dive in with paint, using only the best acrylics and artist grade canvas. We’ll study color, design, and look at other artists’ works. Imagine creating an extraordinary painting of a giant tree or a skyscraper or even of yourself. Or make an enormous painting of a tiny thing, like a bee! Working on a large scale allows us to include the details that are sometimes difficult to show in smaller paintings. There’s nothing like holding a big paintbrush loaded with color as you stand in front of a blank canvas!

Liz Carney is a painter who received a B.A. in Studio Art from Smith College and has been teaching art to children for 15 years. She has created community driven public art projects in Boston, New York and Spain and is fascinated with the intersection of education, public art, community development and, of course, painting. She is a member of the Boston Cultural Council and her paintings are exhibited at the School House Center in Provincetown.

Painting with Beets and Drawing with Dirt!
with Rebecca Arnoldi
Ages 5-7

There are colors all around us. We can make art with anything! And we will! In this class we will use homemade, found, and used materials not traditionally seen as “art materials.” These will include vegetable stains, mud, flour paste and more. Participants will be encouraged (but not required) to bring in their own found or used materials to add to our art supplies! Each day our art will focus on different creatures that live on Cape Cod.

Rebecca Arnoldi has an MFA in painting and an MS in environmental education. Rebecca is author and illustrator of Life in the Tides (Eastern National 2001). She has over 15 years of experience working with all ages of children as an education specialist at Harvard Museum of Natural History, Assistant Field Study Coordinator at the Arnold Arboretum, and Director of the Outdoor Classroom Program at EarthWorks Projects.
