Shifting Persona: Exploring Self Portraiture with Heather Hart
Mondays, March 18-April 22, 9:30-Noon, $325
Even before the mirror was invented in ancient Egypt, humans have been representing themselves through materials. Together we’ll explore the self-portrait in paint and other traditional media, as well as the changing and diverse forms of art that have been used through the ages to represent the self.
Each session begins with a brief introduction followed by practicing our technical skills and investigating materials while we delve into the meaning and concepts behind what we are making and the form it takes. Session themes include: drawing- narrative and fantasy; painting- metaphorical and symbolism; collage and assemblage- the ritual; relational aesthetics/social practice; and ephemeral art. We’ll culminate with final projects and you’ll leave with a diverse collection of self-portraits and a solid understanding of new art forms and concepts.
