Landscape and Mood with Christie Scheele
May 15-17, 9:30-1:30pm, $300
 |
 |
In this workshop students can paint indoors or out, bringing work back to the studio for critique. The instructor will be in the studio to demo her techniques and provide feedback on work done both in and out, emphasizing tonalism and mood through color, shape, composition and the narrative contained in every landscape painting. Massing of shapes and reducing detail to create drama will be a theme of the workshop.

Tips for nearby spots for alla fresca work will be provided. All painting is about mood, and the landscape as subject matter is sublimely so. In this workshop, we break down what elements of a painting create strong currents of serenity, nostalgia, joy, melancholy, and subtle combinations of these. Color, content, and composition contribute to the mood of a painting, so we do exercises in color-mixing and composition, as well as discuss how these elements coalesce into the feel of a landscape in front of reproductions of some of my favorite landscape painters. In the studio, using photographic reference, we freely explore the mood of any palette, season, or time of day, aiming not to manipulate but to be sensitive to the mood we create. All levels welcome.

Abstraction as Form: Seeing Abstractly with Sky Power
April 21-22, 9-4:30pm, $275
| In abstract art we find and create our own structures. This workshop will focus on composition, spacial and color relationships, process, techniques, and developing inner trust. Class discussions emphasizing the compositional relationships of abstract and representational art will help the representational painter make the leap into abstract art. Familiarity with the use of acrylic or oil paints is the only experience required. We will work on several paintings at the same time over a two day period.
Writes a former student,“My experience in your last class was one of the most rewarding I have had in recollection. You were always so well-prepared, so encouraging, experimental, and fun. I loved every minute of it.”

Color Composition Workshop with Robert Henry
March 20-22, 1-4pm, $300
|
A three day workshop focusing on the use of color in composing paintings. This will include: creating the illusion of space with color; examining the qualities of light and shade; and the expressive and decorative use of color.
Using gouache paint, acrylic, or oil we will concentrate on the use of color either as an abstract element in itself, or as part of a figurative, still life or landscape composition. The paintings will start with color ideas rather than from a model or motif.
Materials and sizes at the artists' discretion, ie. paper or panels depending upon the media used.
