THREE’S A CHARM: TEN WORKS BREAK RECORDS AT
PAAM’S FALL AUCTION

For the third consecutive year, PAAM’s fall consignment auction broke at least ten records on Saturday, September 20th!  A packed house, 6 telephone lines and a frenzy of activity added to an evening of bidding wars and a stunning performance by PAAM auctioneer James Bakker.

Among the record breakers were:
Lot 30 Fritz Bultman
$10,235.; Lot 47 George Constant $5,175.; Lot 82 Walter Bartsch $2,185.; Lot 93 Angelo Ippolito $3,450.; Lot 95 Joseph Kaplan $4,370.; Lot 102 Dorothy Loeb $3450.; Lot 108 Morris Davidson $3450.; Lot 121 William H. Littlefield  $5750.; Lot 128 David Syrop $1265.; and Lot 160 Bernard Simon $2300.

Not only did PAAM net approximately $73,000 in support of exhibitions and educational programs, the proceeds of two works by Joseph Kaplan were donated 100% to PAAM and a beautiful white-line wood block print by Flora Schofield was accessioned into PAAM’s permanent collection.

The PAAM auctions are not just an opportunity to purchase wonderful art, but the exhibition preview provides an excellent overview of Provincetown art history as most of the works date from the early 1900s to the 1970s. .

James R. Bakker, in his 22nd year as PAAM’s auctioneer, brought the hammer down in this live auction. This is one of the best and most diverse auctions that PAAM has hosted and was not to be missed- Both Telephone and in-person bids were accepted.

Highlights featured a fine selection of paintings including works by Robert Beauchamp (Seated Man; Self-portrait with Square Eyes), Gerrit Beneker (double-sided Portrait of a Black Man and Gypsy), Fritz Bultman (Palm II), Peter Busa (Untitled, abstract, c.1960s), Frank Carson (Harbor Reflections), Oliver Chaffee (Provincetown Garden), Jarry Farnsworth (Untitled floral still-life and rooftops), Jim Forsberg (April Painting, 1958), William Freed (Bowry; the Window), Dorothy Lake Gregory, James Hansen, Charles Heinz, Daisy Hughes (Circus Tent Booth; Provincetown Houses), Angelo Ippolito (Red and Green Abstraction), Joseph Kaplan, William Littlefield, Lillian Meeser, Ross Moffett (Untitled Provincetown barn, c.1915-20), Heinrich Pfeiffer (A Sunny Sea), and Alvin Ross (Kerosene Stove and Coffee Pot), among others.
